CARE Ecuador seeks to support the implementation of an anticipated US Department of Labor (DOL) funded Project to Improve Adherence to International Labor Standards in the Agricultural Sector in Ecuador
The project seeks to:
- Improve adherence to international labor standards, specifically related to child labor, forced labor, and the promotion of labor rights, within the agricultural sector, particularly in the banana and cut flower supply chains.
- Address evidence regarding the prevalence of child labor in the banana and cut flower sectors, as well as to build awareness and capacity to mitigate the risk of other labor rights abuses, including forced labor, and to support efforts to address occupational safety and health issues.
The Public Sector Liaison will be primarily responsible for handling public communications as the link between the project, government agencies and the local communities served by the project.
The Liaison will serve as the point person for collaborating and communicating with necessary constituents and the public and will be integral to identifying problems in communications among these groups, and facilitating meetings and cooperation among people, agencies and organizations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Communications
- Communicate important governmental information, collecting feedback from the community about government policies related to project activities, organizing community events, and resolving issues between the community and government agencies.
- Prepare and deliver verbal communications, such as press conferences, interviews, phone calls and 1:1 meeting, and written communications, including press releases, reports and social media updates, to colleagues, partners, the public and other stakeholders.
2.Reports
- Event reporting and analysis, which could involve compiling reports on incidents, events or updates to learn from them and improve future project processes and relationships.
If needed, serve as mediator, including negotiating with stakeholders, developing and fostering relationships, getting communities to understand project points of view.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree and 3+ years experience in the area of government relations and experience working with Ministries of Labor and programs targeted at identifying and eradicating child labor, forced labor and other labor abuses.
- Fluency in Spanish is required.
- Master's degree and 3 years of professional experience in the area of government relations and experience working with Ministries of Labor and programs targeted at identifying and eradicating child labor, forced labor and other labor abuses.
