CARE Ecuador seeks to support the implementation of an anticipated US Department of Labor (DOL) funded Project to Improve Adherence to International Labor Standards in the Agricultural Sector in Ecuador


The project seeks to:

  • Improve adherence to international labor standards, specifically related to child labor, forced labor, and the promotion of labor rights, within the agricultural sector, particularly in the banana and cut flower supply chains.
  • Address evidence regarding the prevalence of child labor in the banana and cut flower sectors, as well as to build awareness and capacity to mitigate the risk of other labor rights abuses, including forced labor, and to support efforts to address occupational safety and health issues.
This is anticipated to be a four-year activity This position is contingent upon award.

The Communications Specialist will build and maintain relations between the project, the media and the public.

The specialist will work cooperatively and collaboratively across organizations and stakeholders to produce, track, and/or distribute communications products, and draft a range of communications materials for various audiences and purposes.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


1.Content Development

  • Provide overall coordination of policy papers, talking points and other major means of advancing the DOL agenda, aligning project communications and activities with DOL goals

Examine reports, documents, correspondence, memoranda, and other material submitted by members of the office for completeness and conformity to DOL internal and external standards.


  • Communicate processes, strategies and outcomes with partners and stakeholders
Developing and publishing press releases, case studies or business proposals
Coordinating events and public appearances for CARE employees and stakeholders


2.Communications & Campaigns

  • Planning and initiating communications and campaigns.
  • Measuring the performance of project strategies and improving approaches as necessary.
  • Managing organizations' social media accounts and maintaining a positive public image within media networks.
  • Giving presentations and educating teams, partners, stakeholders and the public about organizational news.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's degree and 3+ years relevant experience, with a minimum of three years of professional experience in communications work relevant to this project labor laws specifically related to child labor, forced labor, occupational safety and health and/or other labor rights in the agricultural sector.
  • Fluency in Spanish is required
  • Master's degree in communications and have relevant experience to this project.
