Why am I a teacher?

First of all, when I was younger, I never thought of dedicating my life to teaching. That was not even an option in my head. The reason? I guess, it was because I never felt identified with any of my teachers during my school time, and generally, I didn’t really see them enjoying what they were doing. I was more focused on music, which I later formally studied at the university.

But, while I was finishing my studies there, I was presented the opportunity to teach in a school, and as I needed, (and of course, I still need), a salary, I accepted unenthusiastically. Nevertheless, that opportunity presented me a window I never noticed in my life before. That window led  me to discover abilities, skills, and feelings that I didn’t know I have in a professional environment: a desire of listen, and serve people through education. And not only to teach, but being sensitive about their needs, and to understand that making “click” with them as human beings, comes first than just presented myself in front of a classroom and “play the teacher" and “give a lesson”.

So, over the years, I have constantly trained myself academically, to the point of getting a master’s degree in education, and of course, earning experience over the years with hits and misses, all to get closer to the idea I have of what being a tutor or leader in a classroom and in a school should be. Of course, I’m still learning today, and that’s an ever present “today”.

I’d like to mention, that my musical skills have allowed me to successfully integrate music to my lessons in the English language field, sometimes creating songs with students, or just bringing good vibes, and engagement into the classroom. Also, I love creating audio and video multimedia material for my students. I use some audio and video softwares to create content for my classes, thus, I like to dedicate time to conscientiously planning all my activities for my lessons. 

My idea of being a teacher tutor, leader is to focus on my students' strengths instead of their limitations. That is what personally inspires and motivates everyday.

I’m a person of small beginnings, but with a big desire to learn, serve and help through moral and values, flexible / adaptive thinking, cooperatively working, and a big desire to be useful and thus inspire children’s spirits.

I have nine years of experience working in different schools in Guayaquil - Ecuador as an English teacher. Also, I have a degree in  music and music production, hence I have successfully incorporated those skills to enrich my lessons, especially with kids. 

Furthermore, I had the opportunity to lead as the area coordinator the English Area of a school, for three years.
